How to be Creative without Criticism
/Hello Love,
Are you your own worst critic? One of the things I see way too often, is clients stopping the flow of creativity and co-creation, not allowing source inspiration to flow. We judge ideas before pen even hits paper, thinking our ideas, offerings, content or plans:
❎ Aren't good enough or "right"
❎ Aren't practical or feasible
❎ Aren't unique or new
So what can you do to create without criticism? Here’s some tips to help you open the tap to all your creative vibes and let your imagination flow.
Write everything down: I’ve talked about the benefits of this before, but doing an idea dump opens up your creativity in the most amazing way. You can use it to brainstorm for any type of project. I love using idea bubbles, list-making and other visual strategies.
Release all expectations and judgement: Switching your mindset to one of hype and hopefulness versus negativity and naysaying can lead to huge growth in your creative spirit. Try to focus on how exciting the process of creating feels, not just the results.
Work in an environment that feels good: Of course it can be harder to brainstorm when you are overloaded with laundry or trapped under fluorescent lights. If you are struggling to connect with your creative side, mix it up and put yourself in a place that feels inspiring!
Find a creative community: They say you are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with. If you’ve lost that creative buzz, perhaps it’s time you cultivate some new relationships with friends, colleagues and fellow makers that value and prioritize creativity as much as you do.
